My partner wants me to use protection after a relationship break, should I be worried?
Guest Post: I’ve been chatting with a friend recently and he’s been worried out of his mind over his relationship.
Apparently six weeks ago he and his partner had a massive blow out which ended up in my friend (lets call him John) storming out his partner’s (lets call him Paul) house. John ended the relationship because he felt hurt and betrayed over a “trivial argument”. Apparently this was the second time John stormed out Paul’s house. They ended up working it out two days after but Paul still felt vulnerable and insecure in the relationship so he asked for a 6 week break. During this time they both talked and solidified their relationship, realising that they wanted to be with each other but Paul kept insisting that he was completely turned off sex and just wanted to romance in order to get back to the grass roots of their relationship. He also mentioned that if they were to be intimate they would have to use a rubber as the “emotional trust” is now broken (since the earlier argument) and needed to be re-instated.
My friend John kept on wondering why Paul didn’t want to be intimate (all of this conversation have been happening over the phone because they were still on their six week break), so he asked Paul if the reason he didn’t want to be intimate and hence use a rubber was because he (Paul) cheated.
John now believes that the reason Paul is insisting they use a rubber if being intimate is because Paul cheated and wants to make sure he was okay (health wise) before engaging in unprotected sex again. Paul is insisting this isn’t the case and he just wants to feel emotionally secure which affects the physicality of the relationship.
So…should John be worried? Is he justified in thinking the way he is? Sound off below
