President Obama Launches Campaign For Gay Rights
President Obama is proving time and time again why he should be re-elected in November 2012. The Obama camp has just released a video campaign advocating LGBT rights.
The president indicated that recognising LGBT issues “wasn’t a single moment in his life” but rather “an accumulation of a lifetime of friends and family” helping him to recognise “how the fight for LGBT rights is consistent with that most important part of American character which is to constantly expand opportunities and fairness to everybody”. The president also believe there’s a strong cultural shift just in the last decade, because “folks are family” indicating “these are people (LGBT) we love, these are people we care about”
President Obama has done more for LGBT people than any other administration;
- Any hospital that get federal funding must give same sex couple visitation and consultation rights
- Benefits to same sex partners of federal employees
- He’s appointed more openly gay officials than anyone in history
- He issued a Presidential Memorandum reaffirming the rights of gay couples to make medical decisions for each other
- Repealing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell
The video towards the end becomes a manifesto for LGBT rights, where Mr Obama makes a personal appearance, and says: “Not only to preserve the gains that we’ve made over the last 3 years, but to make sure that any discrimination is eliminated, you’re going to need a strong advocate in the White House. I am that strong advocate.”
